TO HOLD CONFERENCE EXPLORING ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING ISSUES CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., March 22 -- The first national conference to address the emerging issues related to electronic publishing via both CD-ROM and Internet/Online will be held March 30 - April 1 in Washington, D.C. Co-sponsored by the Library of Congress, which is facing precedent-setting decisions on copyright of electronically-formatted materials, and the University of Virginia, which is developing multimedia publications online, the conference will explore development of products for CD-ROM and Internet publications and address the changing perceptions of managing rights in electronic publishing. Sessions will be held at both the Library of Congress and the Grand Hyatt Washington at 1000 H St., N.W. James H. Clark, chairman and CEO of Netscape Communications Corp. (formerly Mosaic Communications Corp.), the pioneer provider of software that allows communicating and conducting commerce over Internet and other global networks, will predict the future of digital communications during the keynote address on March 30. Register of Copyright Marybeth Peters in the U.S. Copyright Office will address copyright protection in an electronic environment, and Robert Zich, director of electronic programs at the Library of Congress, will provide an overview of the intellectual content now available for commercial and non-commercial applications in computer networks and CD-ROMs. Other speakers will address such topics as technology and the creative process, capturing commercial and library markets and pricing.
