RELEASE ON RECEIPT UVA PHD RECEIVES 1996 HAROLD LAMPORT AWARD CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA., March 21 -- Tara Little Haas, who completed her graduate training in the laboratory of Brian R. Duling, professor of molecular physiology at the University of Virginia, has been chosen by the American Physiological Society as the recipient of the 1996 Harold Lamport Award. Haas was selected to receive the award based upon research done at U.Va. in endothelial and smooth muscle coupling patterns in the arteriolar wall. Her work has made a significant contribution to understanding the cellular biochemistry of this mechanism. Haas is currently a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Pathology in the Yale University School of Medicine. The Harold Lamport Award is presented annually to a young investigator who has made outstanding contributions in the field of cardiovascular research, and who shows great potential for future significant achievements. The award is given in the name of Harold Lamport, a former distinguished member of the Cardiovascular Section of the American Physiological Society who was particularly interested in encouraging the development of promising young members of the Society. The Lamport Award will be presented to Haas during the upcoming Experimental Biology T96 Meeting to be held in Washington, DC April 14 - 18, 1996 at the Cardiovascular Section banquet on Tuesday, April 16, 1996. ### March 20, 1996
