ARTISTS' BOOKS SHOW TO BE HELD AT U.VA. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., March 1 -- In conjunction with the Virginia Festival of the Book, the University of Virginia's Fayerweather Gallery will present the Artists' Books Show March 7 through April 3. As part of a collaborative effort with Second Street Gallery and the Bayly Art Museum, the show will exhibit works by book artists from across the United States. Artists whose works will be exhibited at Fayerweather Gallery include Susan Baker, Douglas Beube, Orazio De Genarro, Jamie Palacios, Bernard Maisner and Lenore Tawney. Tawney, considered an important contemporary fiber artist, was featured in a major retrospective at the American Craft Museum in 1990. An opening reception will be held at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7, in Fayerweather Gallery, located on Rugby Road. Curator Betty Seigner will introduce the show in a gallery talk at 5:30 p.m. Hosted by Second Street Gallery, a panel discussion in which artists will discuss their work will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. The panel, moderated by U.Va. rare books scholar Terry Belanger, will include Douglas Beube, Phyllis McGibbon, whose work is on exhibit at Second Street Gallery and David Freed, whose work is on exhibit at the Bayly Art Museum. Maisner, an illuminator, will give a gallery talk at 8 p.m. in Campbell Hall Room 160.
