U.VA. ECONOMIST SAM KAPLAN CHOSEN PRESIDENT-ELECT OF VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF ECONOMISTS CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., March 22 -- Sam Kaplan, an economist with the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, has been chosen president-elect of the Virginia Association of Economists. Kaplan, a member of the U.Va. Cooper Center's business and economics research staff since 1991, was elected at the association's annual meeting in Richmond Friday. He will serve as president of the 100-member organization in 1998. The association represents economists in colleges and universities, state and local government and private industry throughout the state.
