PHOTO OPPORTUNITY An afternoon of miniature golf and a big picnic dinner with family and friends sounds like a typical celebration for Memorial Day weekend, but for the people gathering at the Putt Putt Golf Course on Saturday afternoon it is anything but typical. The 75 to 100 people expected to attend will be there to honor truly memorable people -- kidney donors from the University of Virginia Transplant Service Center. The celebration, which begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, is hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd F.Wood, owners of Putt Putt Golf on Rio Road. Mr. Wood received a liver transplant at U.Va. in 1992. Currently, U.Va. has 63 living kidney transplant recipients who will be celebrating Memorial Day thanks to the gift of a kidney from a spouse, family member or friend. "For someone to undergo major surgery in order to donate one of their kidneys is a real act of love," said Emily Lyster, one of the Transplant Center's social workers.
