SECOND ANNUAL DADS-AND-KIDS BASKETBALL FESTIVAL CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., May 21 -- If you are a father, you are the most important man in your child's life. A pre-Father's Day celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, on the Grounds of the University of Virginia. Dads and kids, ages seven and older, are invited to participate in the Second Annual Dads and Kids Basketball Festival sponsored by the U.Va. Department of Intermural-Recreational Sports and the Charlottesville Fathering Initiative. The event provides an opportunity for parents to be involved and active in their children's lives. No champions will be determined, no scores will be recorded and no fees will be charged. The goals are involvement, interaction and enjoyment. Register on the Downtown Mall during Fridays After Five from 5 to 7 p.m., May 17, 24 or 31 or Tuesday, June 4 from 5 to 7 p.m., at U.Va.'s Memorial Gym. Registration is first-come, first served. Teams will play three games of four-on-four, half-court basketball over a three-hour period, with modified rules. Games will last 15 baskets or 20 minutes, whichever comes first. Families and friends are encouraged to form a team; otherwise teams will be assigned at registration, with the team roster limited to seven players. The U.Va. Dining Services will provide free food. Free T-shirts for the kids, free music and a free door-prize drawing will also be available. The event is made possible through the support and generosity of many area businesses.
