The University of Virginia's Office of African-American Affairs will host a diversity conference on Thursday, May 8, at Zehmer Hall on Midmont Lane. "Building Bridges/Burning Bridges: The Future and Promise of Diversity" will begin at 9 a.m. Keynote speaker Frank W. Hale Jr., vice provost and professor emeritus at Ohio State University, will discuss issues related to diversity in higher education. Other topics and participants at concurrent sessions include: Thomas R. Morris, president of Emory and Henry College, "Mentoring Students of Color"; Michael Mallory, executive director of the Ron Brown Scholar Program, "Recruitment and Retention of Students of Color"; and Sharon Lovelace, educational consultant at the Medical College of Virginia, "Stress Produced in the Workplace Due to Diversity."
