U.VA. FACULTY TO OFFER CANDID APPRAISALS OF TEACHING CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 2 -- Four University of Virginia faculty will share their thoughts about teaching during a panel discussion Nov. 9 at U.Va.Ős Curry School of Education. The presentation will begin at 1 p.m. in Ruffner Hall auditorium. Edward L. Ayers, professor of history; Margo A. Figgins, associate professor of education and director of the U.Va.Ős Writers Workshop, Tanya H. Furman, assistant professor of environmental sciences; and Steven L. Nock, professor of sociology, will discuss why they believe they are effective teachers. Ayers, Figgins and Furman have been honored recently with outstanding teaching awards. The panelists will discuss what they like most about teaching, what they like least and how they balance their teaching commitments with publishing and research pressures. The presentation is part of the on-going Curry Forum on Educational Issues, an interdisciplinary course that probes current topics related to teaching.
