STUDENTS TO ENTERTAIN FOR CREDIT CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 8 -- Applause--or the lack of it--will give University of Virginia students enrolled in a Theatre for Young Audiences class an idea of how well they have mastered course content. Seventeen students, with majors as diverse as pre-med to English, are spending about four hours a week learning how to act for children. After gaining tips on performing and movement through improvisation, one-person shows, theatre games and group projects, they are creating props and rehearsing for a series of plays to be presented at area elementary schools. Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 15, the students will stage ÒFairy Tales Around the World,Ó which will include performances of ÒThe Golden Goose,Ó ÒSnow White and the Seven DwarfsÓ and ÒTwelve Months,Ó a Russian folk tale. Working together in play production gives students a chance to learn teamwork, said instructor Paulina Shur. ÒThey also get to use their imaginations and gain practice in performing so they can produce polished, finished shows,Ó she said. Students are encouraged to involve children in the play action. They invite the children to sing, dance and give advice on how to curtail evil characters. ### November 7, 1994
