MEDIA ADVISORY SUPREME COURT JUSTICES OF FORMER SOVIET STATES TO VISIT NOV. 16 Sixteen or more justices from the Supreme Court of Russia and other countries that made up the former Soviet Union will visit Charlottesville and the University of Virginia on Thursday, Nov. 16, hosted by U.Va.'s Center for National Security Law. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) justices, including at least 13 chief justices or court presidents, will participate in a discussion of the function of law and legal systems with U.Va. law professors. Reporters are invited to attend the discussion with the judges and law professors John Norton Moore, Daniel Meador and Paul Mahoney from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at the Boar's Head Inn. At 3:15 p.m. the justices will visit the Rotunda, where they will be welcomed by U.Va. President John T. Casteen III in the Lower West Oval Room. News media also are invited to attend the groups' tour of the Rotunda and Lawn. The judges are on an educational visit to the Washington, D.C., area under the sponsorship of the Washington-based Center for Democracy. A schedule and list of participants is attached.
