PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT WRITER'S HARVEST NATIONAL EVENT WILL INCLUDE CHARLOTTESVILLE READING BY SEVEN LOCAL WRITERS On Thursday, Nov. 14, the Omni Charlottesville Hotel, the University of Virginia's Bookstore, and the Charlottesville Writing Center will sponsor a benefit as part of Share Our Strength's fifth annual Writer's Harvest: The National Reading. Local writers Rita Mae Brown, John Casey, Jonathan Coleman, George Garrett, Matthew Jones, Maryanne Voliers and Donovan Webster will read from their own work. "Writers create new worlds with their words. Our hope is that Writer's Harvest will help create a world without hunger," says U.Va. English professor Rita Dove, former U.S. Poet Laureate and the event's national chair. The Charlottesville reading will coincide with over 500 other events taking place around the nation, from which all proceeds will go directly to anti-hunger organizations. The Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank currently serves the city of Charlottesville and seven surrounding counties. TJAFB is a non-profit agency which depends primarily on this community's support. Events like Writer's Harvest make up a large percentage of its yearly income. Share Our Strength invites you to enjoy this literary event and to donate whatever you can to a worthy cause.
