93-10-05 U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove to Speak at U.Va. Fall Convocation Ceremony Oct. 29 U.S. POET LAUREATE RITA DOVE TO SPEAK AT U.VA. FALL CONVOCATION CEREMONY OCT. 29 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Oct. 5 -- U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove, professor of English at the University of Virginia, will speak and read some of her poetry -- at the University's Fall Convocation on Friday, Oct. 29. The 2 p.m. ceremony on the Lawn will include the presentation of intermediate honors to top third-year students and other University awards. The program is open to the public. Free parking will be available at University Hall, with frequent shuttle bus service provided to and from the Lawn area. In the event of rain, the ceremonies will be held in University Hall. Dove, the Library of Congress's seventh poet laureate consultant-in-poetry, plans to participate actively in promoting poetry and literature to the public this year and to introduce original programming at the library. She received the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for her 1986 collection "Thomas and Beulah" and is the author of a novel, a collection of short stories and three additional volumes of poetry, "The Yellow House on the Corner," "Museum," and "Grace Notes."
