93-10-15 Chairman of Bankers Trust Company to Speak on Social Values CHAIRMAN OF BANKERS TRUST COMPANY TO SPEAK ON SOCIAL VALUES CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 15--Charles S. Sanford Jr., chairman of the Bankers Trust Co., will speak on social values of the financial services industry Thursday, Oct. 28, at 1:10 p.m. in Caplin Auditorium at the University of Virginia's Law School. Sanford's public talk is the O'Neil-Abbott Distinguished Lecture, which honors Charles C. Abbott, founding dean of the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, and Walter G. O'Neil, father of former U.Va. President Robert M. O'Neil. The late O'Neil collaborated on research with Abbott. Sanford, who has been with Bankers Trust since 1961, was instrumental in transforming the company from a traditional commercial bank to a global merchant bank during the 1980s. Prior to becoming president, Sanford was head of the bank's resource management department, one of the most respected trading, capital markets and funding operations on Wall Street. He became chairman in 1987. Sanford is also a director of the Mobil Corp. and J.C. Penney Co. and a member of the Board of Overseers at the Wharton School.
