STUDENTS HOPE EVENT WILL BOWL THEM OVER "Human Bowling" will strike the University of Virginia Friday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Newcomb Hall's Cavalier Room. One person in each team will be strapped inside a four-foot-wide steel ball that will be aimed toward extra-large pins. With the advice of teammates, the person inside the ball will attempt to maneuver it toward the pins. Prizes will be awarded to the top-scorers. "We wanted to give students an experience they won't likely forget," said Michael D. McFarland, student co-chair of the University Union travel committee that is organizing the event. "Human Bowling" is the latest activity in the Friday Night Series, started about two years ago to offer students fun, unusual events that do not include alcohol. Among the recent offerings planned by students are a hypnotism show, an outdoor movie next to University Hall and a pool party in which participants watched "Jaws" while sitting in floats.
