ISRAELI NOVELIST AMOS OZ, COLUMNIST WILLIAM RASPBERRY, AND POET CAROLYN FORCHE TO PARTICIPATE IN CONFERENCE ON ÒHATE, VIOLENCE AND CULTURAL IDENTITY CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 25 -- A three-day conference on ÒHate, Violence and Cultural IdentityÓ at the University of Virginia next month will feature presentations by Israeli novelist and peace activist Amos Oz, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist William Raspberry, activist-poet Carolyn Forche, and Floyd Cochran, former national spokesperson for the neo-Nazi group Aryan Nations. The Nov. 9-11 conference will focus on such issues as identifying the sources of hate and violence in society, examining cultural identityÕs role in both causing and healing hate, and finding ways to address worldwide problems of hate and violence. Lectures, workshops and panel discussions will be held with a variety of experts from U.Va. and elsewhere. The conference, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Hillel Jewish Center at U.Va., in conjunction with the UniversityÕs WomenÕs Center and the Office of African-American Affairs.
