CHARLOTTESVILLE AUTHORS TO HELP COMBAT HUNGER CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 15 -- Charlottesville authors will share selections of their works as part of a national benefit for hunger during "Writer's Harvest: The National Reading" Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Virginia's Newcomb Hall Theater. U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove, poets Charles Wright and Greg Orr, novelists Rita Mae Brown and Mary Lee Settle, and non-fiction author Jonathan Coleman will read selections from their works. Author Sydney Blair will host the event. Sponsored by the U.Va. bookstore and Students Against Hunger and Homelessness, the readings are part of the third annual benefit for Share Our Strength, a national organization that works to alleviate and prevent hunger, according to Wayne Terwilliger, a bookstore manager. The suggested minimum donation at the readings is $5. "One hundred percent of the funds raised from the Charlottesville event will go to the Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank," Terwilliger said.
