TELECONFERENCE TO EXPLORE NATIONAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES University of Virginia students can learn about national service opportunities by attending a teleconference Friday, Oct. 7, from 9 to 10 a.m. in Newcomb Hall Theater. To be broadcast from George Mason University, the program will address volunteer opportunities including AmeriCorps, a national service program created last year. College-age students may receive financial support for engaging in community service through the program. The teleconference will begin with Virginia Senator Charles Robb describing the origins of the national service program. Former Peace Corps director Sargent Shriver will talk about the value of public service, and Rick Allen, deputy director for the White House National Service Program, will describe AmeriCorps. U.Va. students will be able to ask speakers questions via a telephone hook-up at the rear of the theater. For more information, contact the U.Va. News Office at 924-7116. ### October 6, 1994
