TZVETAN TODOROV TO LECTURE AT U.VA. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 4 -- Tzvetan Todorov, one of the most provocative and influential literary critics and political thinkers of our time, will visit the University of Virginia Oct. 10-15 to give a series of lectures titled "The Social Passions." The lectures are sponsored by the Commonwealth Center for Literary and Cultural Change and will take place in Newcomb Hall. Todorov, the director of research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris, has written more than 10 books of criticism, which have been translated into numerous languages, as well as many books and essays on political and social thought. His master work, published in France in 1989 as "Nous et les Autres," was translated into English last year under the title "On Human Diversity: Nationalism, Racism and Exoticism in French Thought."
