COMMERCE SCHOOL RECEIVES TWO GIFTS TOTALING $1 MILLION AS PART OF U.VA. CAPITAL CAMPAIGN KICKOFF CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 7 -- The McIntire School of Commerce of the University of Virginia has received two major gifts from corporations for its research and education programs. Crestar Financial Corp. has given $500,000 to fund the development of student and faculty research on small companies and enhance the school's programs on small- and medium-sized business. Price Waterhouse has given $500,000 to establish the Price Waterhouse Center for Innovation in Business Learning, for studies into the nature of policy research, business studies and other activities involved in the creation of business knowledge. A classroom in the school's home, Monroe Hall, has been named for Crestar in honor of the Richmond-based financial firm's ongoing support of education and research on small business. Two U.Va. alumni, Richard Tilghman, Crestar Financial Corp. chairman and chief executive officer, and Bob Moorefield, president of Crestar Bank in Charlottesville, were instrumental in arranging the gift. Moorefield is an alumnus of the commerce school. McIntire faculty will emphasize curriculum development and use multi-media materials, including CD-ROM textbooks, in the new center made possible by New York-based Price Waterhouse. Alumnus Richard Fogg, associate vice chair of Price Waterhouse and a member of the McIntire School campaign committee, was instrumental in securing the gift from his employer. ### October 7, 1995
