DEAN LANCASTER TO HEAD REVIEW COMMITTEE FOR VICE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH PROCESS CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 27 -- University of Virginia President John T. Casteen III today appointed an internal review committee to advise in the selection of a permanent vice president and provost for health sciences to succeed Dr. Don E. Detmer. President Casteen has asked the committee to make its recommendations to him within the next two weeks. Dr. Detmer will assume the title of senior vice president when he returns from research leave in January 1996. Dr. Robert W. Cantrell currently serves as interim vice president and provost. Casteen named B. Jeanette Lancaster, dean of the School of Nursing, to head the review committee, which includes medical faculty members Dr. B. Lewis Barnett Jr., chair of family medicine; Dr. R. Scott Jones, chair of surgery and president of the Health Services Foundation; and Dr. Irving Kron, William H. Muller Jr. Professor of Surgery and chief of the Medical Center clinical staff. Casteen asked the committee to solicit comment on leadership for the Health Sciences Center from as many employees as practicable. The first public forum will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m. in the Camp Heart Auditorium. In addition, employees are encouraged to submit comments by e-mail, telephone or in person. The committee will seek the advice of medical department heads and other HSC leaders in preparing recommendations for the president. ### October 27, 1995
