ROBINSONS' GIFT TO HELP ARTS AND SCIENCES MEET FUTURE NEEDS CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA., Oct. 6 -- Jerrold and Joanne Robinson have created a $1.5 million trust that will support the University of Virginia's College of Arts and Sciences, it was announced at today's Board of Visitors meeting held to officially start the University's $700 million capital campaign. The deferred gift will support the Dean's Fund for Excellence, which provides unrestricted money that enables the College to meet unforeseen needs. "For decades to come, income from the trust will give the College the flexibility to capitalize on promising academic opportunities," said U.Va. President John T. Casteen III. A member of the College class of 1944, Jerrold Robinson is a pioneer in the field of licensed merchandising. The former CEO of Pilgrim Industries, he directed a company that perfected the process of imprinting images on clothing and initiated a long-standing and highly profitable apparel licensing agreement with Walt Disney. Robinson is now a director of Reflexite Corp., a high-tech manufacturing company that produces reflectors used on trucks, cars, boats and airplanes and reflective materials worn by joggers, highway maintenance workers and firefighters. A former vice president and design director at Pilgrim Industries, Mrs. Robinson now designs and sells homes.
