Multiculturalism, Technology, Religion in School Among Topics EDUCATION LEADERS SLATED TO ADDRESS U.VA.'S FORUM ON EDUCATIONAL ISSUES CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Oct. 16 -- Virginia Secretary of Education Beverly Sgro will be one of more than two dozen regional education leaders and nationally recognized scholars speaking at the Curry Forum on Educational Issues this fall at the University of Virginia. Started three years ago to address topics of interest to educators and parents, the forum gives students an opportunity to decide what to investigate, according to Peter Sheras, head of the three-member faculty team in U.Va.'s Curry School of Education that is planning this semester's course. "The students create reading lists for each speaker. They help to determine the breadth of an issue," said Sheras, an associate professor of education. During the three-credit course, speakers will cover such topics as multiculturalism, emerging technologies, attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, and the historical and legal issues involved in conducting religious activities in public schools. All forums, which begin at 1 p.m. in Ruffner Hall auditorium, are open to the public. ### October 15, 1996 1996 CURRY FORUM ON EDUCATIONAL ISSUES REVISED/UPDATED SCHEDULE OF SPEAKERS All speakers and panels will begin at 1 p.m. in Ruffner Hall Auditorium.
