RELEASE ON RECEIPT CONTACT: Marguerite Beck U.VA. MEDICAL CENTER HOSTS OPEN HOUSE AT NORTHRIDGE CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA., Sept. 7 -- More than 35 University of Virginia doctors and numerous other health care professionals will be on hand this Sunday afternoon to welcome the community to the Northridge multi-specialty clinic on Ivy Road. Everything from free skin cancer screenings to a drawing for a free facial peel, compliments of the plastic surgery department, will be available from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 10. "Moving out-patient services away from a hospital setting and into the communities where people live is the trend in health care today," said Dr. Robert Cantrell, acting associate vice president and provost of health sciences. "Although we've had some health services at Northridge for several years, patients still had to come to the University site for mammographies, x-rays, stress tests and other procedures. Now all aspects of many out-patient visits can be accomplished at Northridge, which is much more convenient for the patient." U.Va. physicians and staff will provide the following free screenings at the open house: hearing; cardiac risk; mental health; glaucoma; skin cancer; carpal tunnel syndrome; and peripheral arterial disease, a potentially serious circulatory condition. In addition, there will be videos and information in all areas of the three-story clinic, as well as demonstrations of non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic procedures. Pediatrics will provide special entertainment for children and refreshments will be available in the lobby area.
