RELEASE ON RECEIPT CONTACT: Marguerite Beck CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA., Sept. 28 -- Dr. Robert Cantrell,acting vice president and provost for health sciences at the University of Virginia, was awarded one of five Presidential Citations from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The award was presented at the 99th annual meeting of the association held in New Orleans on September 17-20. Cantrell received the award in recognition of his leadership in the field of otolaryngology and his tireless work to integrate otolaryngology into the complex system of organized medicine in America, said Dr. Eugene N. Myers, president of the Academy. Cantrell served as president and on several committees of the Academy, chaired the advisory committee for Otorhinolaryngology of the American College of Surgeons, served as president of the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery (1985-1986), the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, the Centurion Club of the Deafness Research Foundation (1983-1984), the San Diego Academy of Otolaryngology (1974-1975) and the Society of University Otolaryngologists (1981-1982). He was vice president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (1981-1984). Since 1990, he has been the executive vice president of the American Board of Otolaryngology. The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is a medical organization of more than 10,000 physicians who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ears, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck. Its function is to advance the science and art of medicine related to otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and to represent the specialty in governmental and socioeconomic issues. ### September 27, 1995
