OFFERS MANAGERS INSIGHTS ON BUSINESS ON THE INTERNET CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Sept. 22 -- Business and technology executives will explore the frontiers of commerce on the Internet at a special course next Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the University of Virginia. U.Va. faculty experts on business information systems and computer networking will conduct the day-long course titled "Electronic Commerce on the Internet," an executive education program of the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration. Goals are to give participants an understanding of commercial opportunities and resources available on the Internet and the World Wide Web, and perspective to develop strategies for its current and future use, said Brandt R. Allen, associate dean and professor at Darden. Allen, who holds a doctorate in control and information systems from Harvard University and an MBA from Washington University, is the program's faculty leader. Other teachers are Robert Simoncic, manager of U.Va.'s Computer Networks Laboratory and consultant to industry and government, and Alfred C. Weaver, the labŐs director and co-author of the book "XTP: The Xpress Transfer Protocol." Subjects include Internet market providers, security issues, methods of paying for products and services, trends in commerce and marketing and advertising issues. Several sessions will feature demonstrations of companies already using the Internet in everyday business, Allen noted.
