DO BUSINESS WITH THE FRENCH? BUT OF COURSE! CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Sept. 28 -- Anyone interested in acquiring that special something -- that je ne sais quoi -- that is the key to doing business with the French is invited to a free seminar on the topic on Oct. 11, followed by a reception. Marvina Shilling, a Washington-based, international cultural consultant, will discuss "French and Americans Working Together Successfully: Understanding Implicit Business Assumptions." Shilling, who holds a master's degree in French literature from Harvard University and a master's in human resources from Marymount College of Virginia, has served as a consultant to a number of multinational corporations, including the France Telecom Group, British Telecom and Discovery Communications Inc., which operates the Discovery Channel, and government agencies, including the World Bank, the U.S. Information Agency and the U.S. Foreign Service Institute. Shilling's seminar will run from 4 to 7 p.m. in room 50 of the classroom building of the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business Administration. A reception will follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Pepsico Forum and the South Lounge of the Darden School. The program is being held in honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Franco American Chamber of Commerce of Washington D.C. Pascal Maccioni, the commercial attache at the French Embassy in Washington, is expected to attend. The event, which is open to the public, is designed primarily for professionals in the business and university communities, including students interested in international careers, along with secondary school teachers and guidance counselors in the greater Charlottesville area. The program is sponsored by L'Alliance Francaise de Charlottesville Inc. and the Tayloe Murphy International Business Studies Center at U.Va.'s Darden School. ### September 27, 1996 For more information call Andree King with L'Alliance Francaise at (804) 973-8268; or Paulette Hughes with the Tayloe Murphy Center at (804) 924-4481.
