MOBIL CORPORATION DONATES ART WORK TO DARDEN BUSINESS SCHOOL CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Sept. 13 -- Fairfax-based Mobil Corporation, one of the world's leading oil, natural gas and petrochemical companies, has donated a collection of modern art to the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business Administration. The 32-piece collection of mostly abstract art includes lithographs, silkscreens, etchings, monoprints and drawings. The artists are primarily American and the works date to the 1970s. "The works are not by big-name artists, but they represent a high standard of artistic performance in keeping with Mobil's commitments to quality and excellence," said Pamela Maslansky, curator of Mobil's art collection. Mobil has long been a corporate art collector and well-known supporter of the arts. In recent years, the company has donated a number of art collections to non-profit organizations, schools and hospitals. Mobil chose Darden for its gift of art work this year because of the company's long-term association with the business school. "This is a lovely and generous gift from one of the school's long-time corporate supporters," said Darden's Dean Leo I. Higdon, Jr. "The art from Mobil is a nice complement to Darden's new home." The artwork enhances the hallways of Darden's new complex of Jefferson-inspired buildings, which opened last winter. The collection now is hanging in the student services area of the admissions, career services, and student affairs offices. ### September 12, 1996 For more information, call Elaine Ruggieri at the Darden School at (804) 924-3220.
