Facilities Management (804) 982-5846 FACILITIES MANAGEMENT STAFF RECOGNIZED Leonard Weeks, service contract manager for the University of Virginia's Facilities Management Business Management Services Department, received certification as Virginia contracting officer by the Virginia Department of General Services in Richmond. In a letter of commendation, Vice President for Management and Budget Colette Capone wrote, "We are fortunate to have dedicated individuals like you seeking ways to make contributions that improve the services we provide to the University community." ### Jay Klingel, director of the University's Facilities Management Business Management Services Department, received the President's Award at the recent annual meeting of APPA: The Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers. The award was based on Klingel's work on an APPA team, which redesigned the APPA Institute for Facilities Management. The Institute educates mid-level facilities managers in four core competencies: General Administration and Finance; Operations and Maintenance; Planning, Design and Construction; and Energy and Utilities. The program allows attendees to select classes to meet their specific interests and needs, while ensuring that they also receive a thorough education in the fundamentals of facilities management. Klingel is the dean for the Institute's Operations and Maintenance track. ###
