UVa International Newsletter 3rd Edition

UVa’s International Students Speak Out On “Why UVa”

By now, you probably know the numbers. The University of Virginia: founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the United States. Over 12,000 bright undergraduate scholars hailing from countries all around the globe. Ranked as one of the 25 best universities in the United States. Hailed as one of the top 2 public universities in the nation. Nestled in the “number one city to live in” of America. Then, there are some numbers you probably don’t know. 17 libraries holding nearly 5 million books at your fingertips. Three hundred million dollars in funding for research projects. The list goes on.

But what do you do with all of these numbers? Amazing as they are, these numbers can provide only but a glimpse of the real University of Virginia. For instance, these numbers cannot capture the slightest scent of chrysanthemum flowers powdering the air as you study in a garden steeped in nearly 200 years of history. They cannot capture the miracle of understanding just a tiny bit more about yourself when you tackle your first major research paper, or stink up the apartment with burnt salmon, or stay up talking with your best friends through the night. They cannot capture the stories of the individuals who work, play, and live, now and forever more, as students of the University of Virginia.

The UVa International Newsletter is designed to be your guide to the stories of UVa’s own international students. Listen to why they chose Virginia  out of the myriad schools in the United States. Learn about the opportunities they have discovered through classes, clubs, and sports. Find out what they believe in, who they share their lives with, how they have come to make this strange and foreign land their new home.

There are thousands of universities in the United States. We hope this international newsletter, and the stories of our students, will help you narrow your college choices down to the One that is right for you.
