View MapThe University of Virginia is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, approximately 120 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Two major highways, Interstate 64 and US 29, intersect close to the University Grounds. Ample hourly parking is available in the Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage on Emmet Street. The Office of Admission provides complimentary parking for three hours to prospective students who park in this garage; please bring your parking ticket to the Office of Admission for validation.

From I-64, take exit 118B onto the 29/250 Bypass; then take the second exit (250 East Business), making a right at the top of the ramp and then another right, roughly a mile later, onto Routh 29 Business/Emmet Street.  The Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage will be on your left.

To reach US 29 from the Northeast, take I-495 around Washington to I-66 West. From I-66 West, take the exit marked "US 29 South - Gainesville."  Proceed to Charlottesville where Route 29 becomes Emmet Street.  Pass the John Paul Jones basketball arena on the right.  Proceed straight through the traffic light at the intersection of Route 250 Business (University Ave/Ivy Rd.).  Turn left into the Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage.  If you reach the Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA) traffic light, you have gone too far.  See the U.Va. Parking

The University's central hourly visitor parking garage is on Emmet Street, about a block south of the intersection with University Avenue. The parking garage does have parking spaces designated for persons with disabilities. During the week, be sure to bring your parking ticket to the Admission Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for three hours free parking in the Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage location . Additional visitor parking (if needed) is also available at University Hall if the Central Grounds Parking Garage is full. To arrive on Central Grounds from University Hall, take the Blue Bus Route (free and runs every 15 minutes) and alight at the Chapel. Further parking (hourly) is available on "the Corner".

  • The Office of Admission (Peabody Hall Auditorium) is a short walk from the Central Grounds Visitors’ Parking Garage. From the top floor of the garage, walk across the brick courtyard and up the outside steps to your right and adjacent to Newcomb Hall.  At the top of the stairs, follow the sidewalk straight ahead. The building to your left is Peabody Hall, which houses the Office of Admission. There is a blue sign in front of the building.  If you have difficulty accessing steps and prefer to take an elevator, please use this alternate route.  From the top floor of the Central Grounds Visitors’ Parking Garage, walk across the brick courtyard and through the white double doors of Newcomb Hall. Walk down the hallway in front of you, and turn right into a smaller hallway.  Take the elevator (on your right) to the third floor. Leave Newcomb Hall on the third floor and walk to the building located directly behind Newcomb Hall.  This is Peabody Hall, which houses the Office of Admission.  You can enter through the front door on the opposite side of the building.
  • The Chemistry Building Auditorium is located on McCormick Road adjacent to the Chemical Engineering Research Building (School of Engineering). From the Central Grounds Parking Garage, make your way to the Newcomb Plaza area near the main entrance to the University Bookstore (located at the top level of the Central Grounds Parking Garage). Follow the service road to the right and up the hill that runs parallel to Emmet Street. As you do this, Brown College Residential area will be on your left. Continue on this road until it intersects with McCormick Road. Turn right (cross the bridge) and continue walking. You will pass the School of Engineering on your left, and, next, you will pass the School of Education and Physics Building, respectively, on your right. When you get to the intersection of Bonnycastle Drive and McCormick (the Physics Building will be on the corner) use the crosswalk and move to the left side of McCormick Road. As you do this the Chemistry Building will be in front of you and slightly to the right. There is a sign in front of the building. Enter the building and go upstairs to enter the Auditorium.
  • Wilson Auditorium is located inside Wilson Hall on the fourth floor. Wilson Hall is situated at the south end of the University Lawn, opposite the Rotunda. From the Office of Admission, cross McCormick Road to the side of the street near the row of colonnaded brick buildings (called the West Range). Walk down McCormick (follow the sidewalk) to the right heading towards the amphitheater which is just ahead of you and slightly to your left. Turn left at the amphitheater structure, heading towards the University Lawn. Continue straight ahead on the sidewalk crossing the width of the Lawn. Just before reaching the stairs to exit the Lawn, turn right and follow the sidewalk (staying to your left) past the entrances of Old Cabell and New Cabell Halls. Just left of the entrance to New Cabell Hall and across a very short walking bridge is the entrance to Wilson Hall. As you enter Wilson Hall (you will ALREADY be on the 4th Floor) the Auditorium will be straight ahead and on the right.
  • The Newcomb Hall Theater is located in the basement of Newcomb Hall. From the top floor of the Central Grounds Parking Garage, walk across the brick courtyard and through the white double doors of Newcomb Hall. The entrance to the theater will be just to your left.
  • The Newcomb Hall Ballroom is located on the third floor of Newcomb Hall. From the top floor of the Central Grounds Parking Garage, walk across the brick courtyard and through the white double doors of Newcomb Hall. Walk down the hallway in front of you, and take either the stairs (to your left) or the elevator (to your right) until you reach the third floor. The ballroom occupies most of the floor.
  • The University Chapel is located across McCormick Road from the Office of Admission. From the Office of Admission, walk across McCormick Road to the row of colonnaded brick buildings (called the West Range). Walk down the West Range to your left. The Chapel will straight ahead.
  • The Rotunda is centrally located on University Grounds, marking the north side of the University Lawn and Jefferson's Academical Village. From the Office of Admission, walk across McCormick Road to the row of colonnaded brick buildings (called the West Range). Walk down the West Range to your left. At the end of the Range turn to your right taking a sidewalk (before you reach the University Chapel) to the east side of the Lawn. Continue on the bricked path below the Lawn level and look for the sign indicating the entrance to the Rotunda.
  • The Newcomb Hall South Meeting Room is located on the third floor of Newcomb Hall. From the top floor of the Central Grounds Parking Garage, walk across the brick courtyard and through the white double doors of Newcomb Hall. Walk down the hallway in front of you, and take either the stairs (to your left) or the elevator (to your right) until you reach the third floor. The South Meeting Room will be on the far south end of the main hall.
  • Jefferson Hall is located across McCormick Road from the Office of Admission. From the Office of Admission, walk across McCormick Road to the row of colonnaded brick buildings (called the West Range). Walk down the West Range, away from the University Chapel, approximately fifty yards. Jefferson Hall will be well marked on your left.
  • The Harrison Institute and Special Collections Library is located a short walk from the Central Grounds Parking Garage. From the top floor of the garage, walk across the brick courtyard and through the white double doors of Newcomb Hall. Walk to the end of the hallway in front of you, and take either the stairs (to your left) or the elevator (to your right) until you reach the third floor. If you have taken the stairs, go outside (door on your right) and you will be facing a space between Peabody Hall (the building on the right) and the Harrison Institute (the building on the left). If you've taken the elevator, go outside of the door and Peabody Hall will be on your close left. The Harrison Institute is the next building to the left. Go in the front door and downstairs one floor to the Auditorium.
  • Clark Hall is located on McCormick Road across from the Brown College Residential Area. From the Central Grounds Parking garage 4th floor exit, turn right and away from the University Bookstore. Walk up the hill directly to your right on Newcomb Road. Turn Left at the intersection of Newcomb and McCormick Roads. Clark Hall will be on top of the hill on the right. To get to Clark from the Office of Admission, cross to the other side of McCormick Road and follow it to the right. Clark Hall will be a 1/4 mile down on the left.
  • Minor Hall is located off of McCormick Road. From the Office of Admission, cross to the other side of McCormick Road and follow it to the right. Walk down McCormick (follow the sidewalk) and just past the bus stop, turn left to go down a set of stairs. Minor Hall will be just ahead on the right.
  • Maury Hall is located off of McCormick Road. From the Office of Admission, cross to the other side of McCormick Road and follow it to the right. Walk down McCormick (follow the sidewalk) and just past the bus stop, turn left to go down a set of stairs. Follow the sidewalk keeping the amphitheater on your left and Maury Hall will be up ahead on the right.
