What about research opportunities?

Would you like to travel to the Amazon while studying the development of compounds derived from local frogs? Or conduct fieldwork on human trafficking activism in Thailand?

And all done with support from research grants, awards, and fellowships? Last year, our undergraduates had these opportunities and many more to participate in independent research guided by faculty mentors.

Undergraduates who have conducted research projects are well prepared for advanced graduate study, and they are competitive candidates for prestigious scholarships and fellowships. Many of U.Va.'s recent winners and finalists in competitions for Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Luce, and Goldwater scholarships were engaged in independent research during their undergraduate years.

The Center for Undergraduate Excellence and the Undergraduate Research Network support students interested in pursuing research across the disciplines at U.Va. They offer workshops, host symposia, and can help you understand the research process. Visit www.virginia.edu/cue/ to learn more about these resources.
