Can I study abroad?
Our students love being on Grounds. So why are more and more of them choosing to study abroad at least once during their undergraduate careers? There are many reasons.
Some students study abroad to acquire language skills, gain a new perspective on their choice of a major or their planned career, immerse themselves in a different culture, or simply to have a unique adventure. Regardless of their reasons, many study-abroad veterans say that their study abroad experiences changed their lives and are among their most treasured memories of being a U.Va. student.
Study-abroad opportunities are available in all U.Va. schools regardless of your major. To assist students who wish to participate in an international education experience, the University offers a full spectrum of academic opportunities worldwide. You can select from programs in 70 countries, lasting from one week up to a full year. Whether it's a semester spent studying architecture in Italy, researching global politics in Argentina for the summer, or spending a January term (also known as "J-term") teaching English as a second language in Shanghai, you're likely to find a program that interests you.
U.Va. is the academic sponsor for Semester at Sea, a unique program open to our students and those from other colleges and universities who are interested in global and comparative studies. Each semester and during the summers, Semester at Sea offers voyages to a wide range of countries where students can experience non- Western cultures, developing economies, and diverse political systems.
