How will I get around?

The University does not permit first-year students to have their own cars on Grounds. But that rule doesn't seem to slow them down. The Corner, the shopping and dining district located adjacent to the University, draws a lot of foot traffic from students, faculty, staff, and tourists. Bicycles are also a convenient, environmentally friendly means of transportation for many students.

Another popular way of getting around is the University Transit Service, which provides free, safe, reliable transportation throughout the year. You can go almost anywhere around the University Grounds and the surrounding community aboard a UTS bus. In addition, the Charlottesville Transit Service provides bus service throughout Charlottesville and parts of Albemarle County. The CTS also operates the Free Trolley Route, which provides a bus every 15 minutes, six days per week, to the Downtown Mall.

When they're not walking, taking a bus, or tooling around on bicycle, many students like to share rides with friends for off-Grounds shopping, dining, or outdoor activities.
