How will the honor system affect me?

U.Va. students are expected to be honorable. That is, they commit to not lying, cheating, or stealing. Most students say that the system allows them academic and personal freedom. Professors trust their students and may hand out exams for students to complete on their own and return the next day. Many local merchants accept U.Va. student IDs for check writing purposes. The honor system is a prime example of student self-governance—both the Honor and Judiciary committees are run by students. Students hold themselves to a high standard. When you come to U.Va. you enter a community of trust.
