Charge

The Processions Subcommittee plans and coordinates the logistics for Final Exercises, Fall Convocation, and certain other University-wide ceremonies as identified by the President. The chair of this Subcommittee serves as a member of the Committee on Commencement and Convocations. The following two groups report to this Subcommittee:

Assembly Group:

This Group coordinates the academic procession at Final Exercises, Fall Convocation, and certain other convocations. The Group consists of six faculty members from the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and one faculty member from each of the following schools: Architecture, Continuing and Professional Studies, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Graduate Business, Law, Medicine, and Nursing. 

Seating Group:

This Group is responsible for the seating of faculty members and students at Final Exercises, Fall Convocation, and certain other convocations. The Group consists of six faculty members from the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and one faculty member from each of the following schools: Architecture, Continuing and Professional Studies, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Graduate Business, Law, Medicine, and Nursing.

Committee Structure

The Director of Major Events serves as chair. Representatives from the following service units involved with the logistical arrangements serve on the Subcommittee: Army ROTC, Department of Athletics, Dean of Students Office, Environmental Health and Safety Office, Equal Opportunity Programs, Facilities Management, Intramural-Recreational Sports, Music Department, Navy ROTC, Parking and Transportation, Police Department, Printing and Copying Services, Registrar's Office, Office of Public Affairs, and U.Va. Dining Services. Other members include the University's Grand Marshal, the chair of the Assembly Group, the chair of the Seating Group, the Platform Coordinator, and chair of the Public Occasions Subcommittee (ex-officio). The graduation committee chair for the Fourth Year Class serves as the student member.
