10th Annual American Democracy Conference: Larry Sabato Moderates 11/21/08 - Each year, the Center for Politics presents the American Democracy Conference. Growing from the first National Post Election Conference in 1998, these gatherings examine not only the most recent election cycle and/or primaries in hindsight, but also current campaigns, upcoming elections and prospects for the future of American democracy. This year the Center for Politics and CQ Politics brought together today's leading journalists, Beltway insiders, political analysts and academics to examine the presidential and congressional races. Professor Larry Sabato hosted this second panel that took place on Friday, November 21, at the University of Virginia Alumni Hall. |

2008: An Election Post-Mortem11/6/08 - "2008: An Election Post-Mortem, A Forum on Race, Gender and Religion in the Presidential Campaign" took place in Clark Hall on November 6 at 7:30 pm. Designed as an event to bring together UVa students, faculty and the Charlottesville community in an open discussion and assessment of this historical Presidential Campaign, it featured Tim Lovelace, graduate student in History, Lynn Sanders, Assoc. Professor of Politics, Valerie Cooper, Asst. Professor of Religious Studies, and Bruce Williams, Professor of Media Studies, as speakers. A question and answer session ended the evening.

Obama and McCain Advisers Debate Health Care Proposals at U.Va. 10/1/08 - Arthur Garson Jr., vice president and provost at U.Va. and the former dean of the School of Medicine, hosted a debate between senior medical advisers to the McCain and Obama campaigns on Wednesday at the University of Virginia. Irwin Redlener, representing Democrat Barack Obama's campaign, and William Winkenwerder Jr., representing Republican John McCain, spoke about their proposals in the Dome Room of U.Va.'s Rotunda. |

Women in Leadership and Philanthropy at U.Va. 9/27/08 - The inaugural Women in Leadership Conference was held at the University of Virginia Sept. 26-27, 2008, featuring distinguished speakers and panels on contemporary topics in the worlds of business, public life, science and the arts. Speakers in this panel included Marcia Day Childress, Adom Getachew, Yoke San Reynolds and Karin Wittenborg. The panel was moderated by Suzan Garson. |
