COPYING SERVICES: Copyright Clearance
Located in the Alderman Library Copy Center our Copyright
Clearance Specialist assists the University community in complying with
copyright laws. Most of the time, this is in conjunction with Course Packs
sold through the University of Virginia bookstore or via the Toolkit website.
We will be able to assist you with the University's interpretation of copyright
law, looking into guidelines regarding "fair use" and ultimately
obtaining copyright clearance for you.
Because of processing time, planning ahead is vital. We recommend
that copyright clearance requests be submitted by the target dates listed
below. Based on average response times your packet should be ready by the
first day of class.
• Fall Term: July 15th
• Spring Term: November 1st
• Summer Semester: April 15th
Our staff will continue to seek permission after these target
dates and anytime throughout the year. However, be advised that material
cannot be copied until copyright permission has been received.
