Apply For a Fellowship
To apply for a 2009-2010 fellowship, please submit a complete application by email or standard mail, and ask two references to send letters of support under separate cover to the VFH. The postmark deadline for all materials, including reference letters, is December 15, 2008.
Your application will include three parts:
- Application Form (.doc)
- Project Description: Abstract (250 words maximum) and Proposal describing work you plan to do while in residence (8-10 pages, double-spaced, in 12-point font)
- Curriculum Vita or Resume
These materials may be submitted as three email attachments (Word documents or PDF) to VFHfellowships@virginia.edu. Alternatively, you may submit six paper copies of the complete application to:

Reference letters in support of your application should be addressed to Hilary Holladay, Senior Program Fellow, and sent to VFHfellowships@virginia.edu or the VFH mailing address.
You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application.
Eligibility
Fellowships are open to faculty members in the humanities, independent scholars, and others working on projects in the humanities. Applicants need not have advanced degrees, but the VFH generally does not support work toward a degree. Postdoctoral applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for projects other than dissertation revisions. Former VFH Fellows must wait three years before applying for another Fellowship. Former Fellows are welcome to apply for space (without stipend) at any time.
The VFH reserves the right to award or deny Fellowships on the grounds of merit, relevance to VFH goals, and availability of funds or space.
Review
All finalists will be contacted by telephone. Fellowship selections are based on a panel review of the application and the telephone discussion.
