One Minute for the Humanities

July 2011

The FY 2012 Interior Appropriations bill soon to be debated on the House floor includes $135 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities, a reduction of $20 million below the FY 2011 level.

Funding for the NEH has already been cut drastically from the FY 2010 level of $167.5 million. The state humanities councils, which received $47 million in FY 2010, are reduced to $38 million in the FY 2012 House bill. These funds help support the work of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.

Please take “One Minute for the Humanities” to let your representative know that no further reductions should be undertaken. This cut will deprive families, students, teachers, veterans, nonprofit organizations, libraries, museums, and many others of vital educational and cultural resources…with rippling economic impacts in private sector entities that assist the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities in our efforts.
