Nondiscrimination
Statement
The statement printed below is the University of Virginia's official
nondiscrimination statement. The Office of Equal Opportunity/Affirmative
Action requests that it be printed in University catalogs, all recruiting
materials (student and personnel), program brochures, and other
"official" publications from the University, such as annual
reports. It can be set in a smaller typeface and is usually positioned
on an inside front or back cover or in the first few pages of a
publication.
At
the request of the Office of Civil Rights, the University in 1988
expanded the official nondiscrimination statement: catalogs and
major publications must now carry the name and address of the Section
504 Coordinator and the Title IX Coordinator (as written in paragraph
two). In 1991, in resolving a complaint filed with the Office of
Civil Rights, the telephone numbers of the University's Section
504 Coordinator and its EO/AA Officer were added. In 1992, information
on the American Disabilities Act was added.

Nondiscrimination Policy (October
25, 2001)
Consistent with Federal and State law, the University does not discriminate
in any of its programs, procedures, or practices on the basis of
age, color, disability, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation,
race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. The
University operates equal opportunity and affirmative action programs
for faculty, staff, and students, including discriminatory harassment
policies and procedures. The University of Virginia is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
The Office of Equal Opportunity Programs (Office of EOP) is responsible
for the enforcement of the University non-discrimination obligation.
A faculty member, staff employee, or student having a complaint
of prohibited discrimination may file a discrimination complaint
with the Office of EOP subject to the standards and in accordance
with the University of Virginia Discrimination Complaint Procedures.
