be our guest. The topic will be philanthropic

Foundation funding of science and engineering.

There will be one more meeting of the

Commission in 1999. It is Tuesday, (21 Dec.) 2 weeks

hence (on our regular schedule). The Strategies

Subcommittee will make a new report. The topic

for that meeting will be

* selecting specific strategic areas in S&T

who does it, now and in the future

* how do we institutionalize strategic

investment in S&T in this University

* how do we mobilize support for such

strategic investment -- especially

specific topics, once chosen -- and

sustain the drive to build somethig
