The McIntire Department of Art, the McIntire Department of Music, the McIntire Department of Drama, and the Bayly Art Museum have joined together to promote the theme, "Technology in the Arts," in their 1999-2000 Arts Enhancement program offerings.

Virginia Currents

Virginia Currents is the only professional contemporary music ensemble in Virginia, and the University of Richmond’s resident new-music ensemble. The ensemble includes soprano Christine Schadeberg and composer/conductor Fred Cohen. In their program "New Works by Virginia Composers," Currents presents the premiere performances of chamber works by seven Virginia composers: Alicyn Warren, Benjamin Broenig, Daniel Gutwein, Edgar Williams, Fred Cohen, Judith Shatin, and Terry Vosbein.

Paul Dresher Ensemble

A contemporary performing ensemble, the Paul Dresher Ensemble produces and tours its own works of opera and musical theater, as well as performs an "electric chamber band. The band exhibits the works of a wide range of composers by combining traditional acoustics and contemporary electronic instruments.

Susan Lutz is an artist whose work blurs the distinction between fine arts, photography and documentary film and video. The exhibition of her work in 3-D stereoscopic photography, video, film, and installation art opens with a reception on Friday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 in Fayerweather Gallery. The exhibition runs through the month of February.

John Ford, known for his exploration of our relationship to time and memory in his sculpture installations and etchings, will lecture.

In her work, Pati Hill explores the possibilities of printmaking using photocopy machines. This exhibition of her most recent work includes her "Versailles" prints.

Hindsight-Foresight: Art for the New Millennium

8-10 internationally known artists will create pieces using new technologies while examining the role of the artist in the 21st century. The artists will work with community groups on site-specific projects.
