Best known for its Romanesque architecture and for bestowing its name upon some of the world’s finest wines, Burgundy also offers some enticing footpaths to the traveler on foot. We followed ancient tracks through enchanting hedgerows, woods and vineyards, across rolling hills planted in grapes and grains, with stops at medieval churches, châteaux and picturesque villages.
We meandered through flourishing vineyards – Clos Vougeot, Vosne Romanée, Puligny Montrachet, Meursault – and sampled the superb wines: Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and many more.
Highlights of the trip included:
- Tea with the Countess at Château Rully
- Learning about Burgundian history, as glorious as its food and wine
- Visiting the superb medieval castle at Le Rochepot
- Touring the Hospices de Beaune - an architectural masterpiece
- Leisurely stops to sample some of the most famous wines in the world
