Third Voyage: Tuscany
Trip Itinerary
Scrapbook from Tuscany
A Letter from an Alumnus
The Tuscan countryside itself seems a work of art - a montage of farms, forest, vineyards and olive groves - accessible to the walker by cypress-lined paths and byways that have been in use since the days of the Roman Empire. Footpaths led us across the very landscapes that inspired Renaissance masters and through Brunello di Montalcino and Montepulciano, two of Italy's most noted wine regions. We wandered over rolling hills to reach churches full of magnificent frescoes as well as enchanting towns and villages.

Quintessential Italy: romantic languages, inspiring frescoes, and handsome town halls
Pienza: named and rebuilt for Pope Pius II in the 15th century
Siena: the most authentic medieval city in Italy
Imaginative walks designed to transport us back to the height of the Renaissance
Montepulciano’s famous red wine and a host of art treasures from the Sienese School
