University of Virginia-HBCU Connections
The University of Virginia (U.Va.) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have collaborated over the years on a variety of faculty research, undergraduate and graduate student opportunities. Some current initiatives include the Rapid Response Robotic Telescope at the Fan Mountain Observatory with Norfolk State University, and the Summer Language Institute. U.Va. encourages and supports these academic alliances and hopes to develop more in the coming year, especially with HBCUs in Virginia, including Hampton University, Norfolk State University, St. Paul’s College, Virginia State University, and Virginia Union University.
Spring 2012 Opportunity - The Teaching Resource Center at UVa offers its 5th annual Course Design Institute, May 21-25, 2012. Faculty at Virginia HBCUs are encouraged to apply. See trc.virginia.edu/Workshops/CDI for more information.
A committee made up of faculty and administrators from across U.Va. meets regularly to discuss and encourage collaborative projects with HBCUs. For more information contact Melvin Wilson, U.Va.-HBCU Committee Chair and Associate Provost for Faculty Advancement.
