U.Va. Names Mark Crowell as Its First Executive Director of Innovation Partnerships
A message from Mark Crowell
The University of Virginia has created a position and an opportunity unique among U.S. universities. Most research universities do "technology transfer." U.Va.'s broader focus on innovation, partnerships and commercialization reflects a more robust and strategic view of how institutions like U.Va. fit within the "innovation ecosystems" in which they reside.
U.Va. brings many unique assets to this activity – including its outstanding faculty and students, its record of significant research and scholarship, its enlightened leadership, its dedicated and loyal alumni and supporters, its historical role and contribution to society, and its commitment to excellence in all that it does. I am confident that we can launch innovation and commercialization partnerships across the institution and with businesses, institutions and governments throughout the nation and world that will result in the creation of great economic, societal, and institutional value.
It is an honor for me to join U.Va. in this role – and I look forward to helping to create and execute U.Va.'s innovation agenda.
