Traditionally faculty members have focused primarily on basic research. Increasingly, academics are interested in the development of their research into products that are available in the marketplace.
Because the research is at such an early stage, it can be difficult to find others willing to nurture the technology to the point where it is attractive to investors. A number of faculty at U.Va. feel so strongly about their discoveries that they have created their own companies.
These faculty entrepreneurs are supported by a rich blend of programs, services, and networks, both within and outside the University. The Office of Economic Development can assist with identifying resource options. |
