University Programs & ResourcesTravel Reimbursement for Graduate Student Recruitment by Faculty: This program seeks to enhance the visibility of the University's graduate programs to prospective applicants by encouraging personal contact with U.Va. faculty. Rolling application process. [This program has been suspended due to budget reductions.] 60th Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students: Each year since 1951, Nobel Prizewinners in Chemistry, Physics or Physiology/Medicine have met in Lindau, Germany, to discuss major issues of importance to their fields with students from around the world. The University of Virginia is permitted to submit three graduate student nominations for consideration. An internal nominations process will select the University’s nominees. Nominations due Oct. 12, 2009. [more info - PDF - DOC] Bankard Fund for Political Economy, Request for Faculty Research Proposals: The Bankard Committee invites proposals for faculty research projects. The focus of research projects should have the greatest possible influence upon the development and continuation of the public policy necessary for a healthy private business system and a healthy national economy. Bankard Fund for Political Economy, Request for Proposals for Lectures, Workshops, Seminars, and Conference: The Bankard Committee invites proposals for sponsored lectures, workshops, seminars and conferences during 2007-08 from faculty and academic units at the University. Proposals may be for one-time events (like a lecture or conference) or for recurring events (like a semester-long seminar). Dumas Malone & Albert Gallatin Graduate Research Fellowships: Sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation, these fellowships are awarded to graduate students in architecture, history, politics, and/or international affairs. Nominations due Jan. 13, 2010. [more info] Clare Boothe Luce Graduate Fellowships: Sponsored by the Clare Boothe Luce Program, of the Henry Luce Foundation, these fellowships seek to increase the representation of women in the sciences and engineering, particulary among the professoriate. Council of Graduate Schools-University Microfilms International Distinguished Dissertation Award (Physical Sciences): Doctoral programs are invited to submit nominations for the internal competition for the CGS-UMI Distinguished Dissertation Award. The selected nomination will be forwarded to CGS-UMI for consideration in the national competition. Nominations due mid-May 2010. Conference of Southern Graduate Schools (CSGS) Faculty Awards: The CGS Faculty Awards recognize outstanding contributions to graduate education at the institutional and regional levels The current award is the "2010 Outstanding Mentor Award " and the "2010 Award for Outstanding Contributions to Graduate Education in the Southern Region." Nominations due October 2, 2009. [more info] Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) U.S. Faculty Scholar Grants: The VEF mission is to build the bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam through educational exchanges. The objectives of the U.S. Faculty Scholar Grants program are to contribute to capacity building in science and technology in Vietnam, to help Vietnamese institutions address specific educational challenges, and to build positive relationships between U.S. and Vietnamese higher education institutions and faculty members.
