Informed Consent Agreements
If a research protocol qualifies for exemption, generally the board does not require the documentation of consent. However, in most cases where research is conducted in a classroom or educational setting, it is appropriate and prudent to at least notify parents of your research using parental notification procedures. In some cases, the board may require written consent procedures for exempt research. As the level of risk increases, so will the need for using a more formal consent process, such as having the participants sign a consent form, which typically means that the protocol is not exempt.
