SBS Submission and Review Process

Guide :: Submission :: Grant Approval :: What do I submit?

What do I need to submit a Grant Approval?

Please submit the following:

  • IRB-SBS Grant Approval Form:  This form acts as the cover sheet for your grant submission to the IRB-SBS.  Please provide a general summary of what you plan to do in your study.  The explanation does not need to be lengthy or detailed, but you should consider major questions such as risk to participants.
  • Completed Grant Application:  This is the application that you are submitting to the funding organization.  Draft text is accepted as long as the description accurately reflects the research protocol that is being proposed.
  • Appendices Outline: It isn’t necessary for you to submit grant application appendices (i.e. instruments, additional materials) though the Board may request them at a later time if they have questions. Instead submit a list of the appendices.

The IRB-SBS requires that all researchers be certified to conduct human studies research.  The final grant approval will not be issued until all key UVA personnel listed on the grant application have completed their training.  UVA currently requires the CITI Training for our researchers.  Training is valid for three years.  For more information, please see CITI Training.
